Carpet

Fibres

  • Wool – this is a natural fibre. A pure wool carpet is softer and more luxurious than most other types of carpet and is likely to last much longer. It is a favourite for warmth, feel and durability. Generally though, it does come at a higher cost that other fibres, but you’re getting a higher quality fibre. Wool also has excellent resilience, so it recovers well from crushing while preserving its appearance.
  • Wool Blends – when wool is blended with synthetic fibres, the durability of wool is increased. For this reason, wool blends are becoming more and more popular.
  • Nylon – by far the most popular fibre choice as it is wear-resistant, making it suitable for high-traffic rooms such as hallways and living rooms. Nylon carpet is no longer the cheap and shiny fibre it was once known for. Many improvements have been made to the manufacturing process for it to now be the leading choice. It maintains its colour and is relatively stain-resistant.
  • Polypropylene – carpets made from polypropylene are hard wearing so they are suitable for areas with high foot traffic. Polypropylene fibres are also colourfast & stain resistant making them easy to clean. It is popular for its low cost and high durability; however, it does have a rougher feel than other fibres.
